The atom is considered to be the smallest building block of all matter. Whether it's a tiny ant, or a massive planet, everything is composed of these atoms, in one combination or another. Atoms can be further subdivided into two components: the nucleus, with positively charged subatomic particles called protons and neutral subatomic particles called neutrons, and negatively charged electrons orbiting the nucleus.
