How is a resting potential achieved?

Membrane potential is measured by difference in concentration of ions across the cell membrane. Resting membrane potential is the electrical voltage at which a cell is not stimulated. It is the result of opposite changes on either side of the cell membrane, that is, the cell membrane is more negative inside than outside. In most cases it is given as -70mv.
