M.Sc. in Computer Science
I have been working in the ICT field for more than 30 years. When I first started my career, I had different jobs like managing computer systems and databases. I saw how computer technology changed over time, from personal computers to cloud computing. I have been a project leader for many IT projects. I worked with different teams and faced challenges like integrating systems and dealing with cybersecurity issues.About 25 years ago, I became interested in education. I think my experience could help students with ICT. Since then, I have worked with many students, making sure they understand the basic ideas of ICT and the quickly changing technology trends.
My tutoring approach focuses on applying ICT theories, not just understanding them. My teaching style combines traditional classroom learning with practical, hands-on sessions. We can analyze a code in one class and then test how it works in a simulated environment in the next class. Because technology is always changing, I regularly update my syllabus to keep my students up to date.
We sent messages to three teachers to get ready for our son's GCSE Further ICT tests. It was hard to connect to wifi on the first one, and it didn't try to rejoin. The second one looked like it was too busy to answer, and then we got Alexander. It's going to be third time lucky for sure! From the first lesson, we knew we had made the right choice: they were friendly, skilled, and knew a lot. As our son gets ready for his last test, it's clear that his confidence has grown a lot. Thanks, Alexander.
I wish we had more time to work with the newest software, but his stories from work make every lesson interesting..
It's an honor to learn from someone with so much knowledge. Each class is an in-depth examination into the world of ICT, and each time I feel like I know more.
B.Sc. in Information Systems
I have been working in the ICT sector for more than 20 years. I started working for a tech startup, where I focused on developing software and designing systems. Over time, I moved into more important positions where I managed projects and provided IT advice for different industries like healthcare and finance.About 22 years ago, I chose to focus on the academic side of ICT. I noticed a problem: there is a gap between what industries need and what students are learning in classrooms. I want to fix that problem. So, I began teaching with the goal of giving students a mix of textbook information and real-world experience.
For me, learning is not just about memorizing facts. It's about understanding why they are important and how they can be used. I believe it's important to understand theories, but I also value putting them into practice. In my classes, students often work on practice projects, solve made-up but realistic tech problems, and sometimes talk to guest speakers from the ICT world.I also like to stay informed. The world of ICT changes quickly, and I always try to teach using the newest trends and technology.
Aria is a great teacher. She is very patient and makes things easy to understand. A lot of practice questions really help my son get ready for the iGSCE. She gets right to the point of what he needs to do to get good grades. The grades of my son have gone up, and he really likes working with her. In short, Aria a great ICT teacher, and I would suggest her to anyone who needs one.
I really appreciate how hard Ms. Nadeau works to make sure the lessons are always new and useful. I think our projects could use more up-to-date tools, but her vast experience in the field makes every class very useful.
Masters degree in Cyber Security
In my tutoring years, I’ve experienced a wide range of teaching styles. I believe the saying “Understanding is the key to remembrance.” This is why I explore a topic from cause to effect and teach my students not just what something is, but why something is the way it is. After direct teaching, I offer pupils some exam-style questions to work through with them so that I can recognize weaknesses.
The structure of a session with me will adapt to fit my student's requirements. I teach each skill or sub-topic separately, supported by examples, and followed by answering questions to test their knowledge. This method enables tutors to master each part of the topic, before merging them all together.
It would be an understatement to say that Mia is a fantastic tutor. Mia has been an absolute Godsend for GCSE Computer Science, and it's been a joy to work with her. Her lectures are intentional, and she is insightful in the ICT subject.
Mia is very professional and patient. She was willing to go above and beyond for our sessions. Really liked her guidance on Python!
Mia is very thorough and patient, pushing me with previous GCSE papers when needed. She always looks forward to the lessons.
BSc in Computer Science, MSc in Network Engineering
I started with Computer Science and then moved into Network Engineering, which I find really interesting. I have worked in the corporate sector for more than ten years. During this time, my main focus was on creating, managing, and improving big networks for multinational companies. This experience helped me understand both the technical aspects and the challenges that come with these types of roles.Ten years ago, I chose to focus on academia. I became an educator because I wanted to share the knowledge I had gained. I have helped many students as a mentor in the field of ICT.
I use an exploration-based approach to ICT tutoring. Imagine embarking on a journey through the various landscapes of Information and Communication Technology. Instead of having a strict plan, we are open to changing our path based on your interests and questions. I enjoy exploring coding challenges, understanding network protocols, and designing user interfaces. Each session is like a new adventure for me. This approach led by students helps you stay interested and curious, making the learning process natural and fun.
The meetings with Mr. Bouchard were helpful. He made the complicated world of networking look so easy to understand. I really recommend his classes!
Owen knows a lot, but I thought some of the ways he did things were a little out of date. Adding more of the latest tech trends would have been helpful.
Francesca is in year 5 right now, and Owen has been her tutor for about a year to help her prepare for the 11+ entrance tests. In Francesca's school notes up to year 3, she went from being "good" to being "Excellent." Francesca has moved up to the top group in her class for ICt, and she was even chosen to represent her school in a ICT challenge. I highly suggest Owen because he is honest, dependable, and knows a lot about the subject. He is also great at working with kids and keeping them interested and excited about it. ICT has become Francesca's true love, and now it's even her favorite subject!!!
BSc in Software Engineering
I finished my degree in Software Engineering and then started working in mobile app development. I have been working with a start-up for almost three years. During this time, I have been involved in creating and using advanced applications that prioritize the needs of the users. The fast-paced environment helped me improve my technical skills and taught me the value of good communication and working together as a team.I started teaching because I wanted to share what I know with the younger generation. In the past four years, I have helped students understand the changing field of software development and the need to be adaptable in the tech industry.
For me, ICT is not just about knowing how to code; it's about understanding how it can be used and what it means. I use a method called project-based learning. This means that students work on real software projects, which helps them understand theoretical concepts better. I focus on current trends during my sessions to make sure students are always prepared for the industry's needs.I encourage my students to think creatively, ask questions, and solve problems instead of just memorizing information. This helps them become more independent, which is important in the tech industry.
I had a hard time with coding at first, but Ms. Fournier's ways of teaching have helped me a lot. I not only know the basics, but I can also make my own apps now!
I learn a lot from Lily's sessions. Some more attention to the basics, though, would be great for those of us who are brand new to the field.
Lily was very professional, and the way she talked to people made me feel at ease, which made me look forward to my classes. She has made me feel better about my IT skills. Thanks, Lily.
