PhD in Roman Literature and Art
I have been teaching Latin in the IB program for more than 30 years. I have seen how Latin instruction has changed over time. I have taught in different places, like regular classrooms and online platforms. I have changed and improved my teaching methods with each new group of students. In recent years, I have worked with other scholars, participated in many workshops, and always asked students for their feedback. This has helped me improve my teaching skills and accommodate different ways of learning.
We explore Latin through the arts. We dive into Latin songs, poetry, and even Latin sayings in famous artworks. This approach adds a creative dimension to learning and makes Latin more expressive and enjoyable. Through art and music, you'll connect with the Latin language on a deeper level.
I am thankful that Theodore can help me teach my son. He always gets things done on time and carefully. In order to motivate even a 13-year-old who is crazy about TikTok, he plans his study time in great detail. My son wants to sit down and work because he spends a lot of time planning the lessons himself. I can't say enough good things about Theodore.
Theodore's passion for the subject shines through. I do sometimes wish for more regular grammar drills, but his approach is very unique.

I have spent almost thirty years teaching and studying Latin. Through this, I have learned that Latin is important for understanding ancient civilizations and what they have given to the world. I have helped many students learn Latin and understand its historical, philosophical, and literary aspects. I have attended different workshops for learning Latin and have also helped create curricula for schools. I want to make Latin easier to understand and more fun, whether I'm teaching in a classroom or working with someone individually.
Latin can seem scary to many people, but I like to make it easier by breaking it down into smaller, easier parts. I begin by teaching my students the basics so they have a strong understanding. Then, we study traditional stories, paying attention to how they are written and what they are about. It's essential to me that students don't just see Latin as words on a page. I want them to see it as stories, philosophies, and insights from a long time ago. I use videos, pictures, and discussions to make each session a fun and engaging learning experience.
With the help of Rocco, I went from getting a B grade in GCSE Latin Literature to getting an A*. He knows a lot about the texts and about how to do well on tests and how to organize an essay in general. I would definitely suggest his lessons.
A well-versed tutor! I do wish we spent a bit more time on advanced grammar structures.

During my almost 28 years of teaching Latin in the IB curriculum, I have witnessed and adjusted to various changes in teaching methods and student requirements. In the beginning, I used traditional methods. But as time went on, I started using a more holistic approach. I have taught students from different schools and programs, and each student has brought something special to my teaching experience. My extensive experience has helped me become more patient, flexible, and creative in how I teach.
I bring Latin to life through captivating stories. We read and create narratives in Latin, which helps you absorb the language naturally. Stories make learning enjoyable, and they provide context for Latin words and phrases. Whether it's a mythological tale or a modern story, you'll discover the beauty of Latin as a storytelling language.
Rosie is very passionate about the topic she teaches, which, combined with her knowledge of the topic, helps to ensure that the lectures are both educational and engaging for the students. My kid thoroughly enjoys the classes, and she is very well-organized and has a lot of teaching expertise. She is covering the material both quickly and completely when they work together, and I am extremely pleased with the progress that has been accomplished up to this point.
Rosie is simply amazing in every way. Her approach to teaching is quite productive, despite the fact that she has a laid-back but professional demeanor. She never loses her patience, is of great assistance, and modifies her instruction based on what you hope to gain from the class. Well worth the cost; I cannot suggest her highly enough.
PhD in Ancient Literature
I have studied Latin literature and its historical context for over 27 years. Latin has always helped me connect with the ancient world because of its fascinating history and stories. I have studied ancient texts like Virgil's Aeneid and Cicero's writings. I enjoy teaching students what I have learned. The last 25 years have been a time of always learning. I began teaching in schools, but then I switched to personalized tutoring. This way, I can customize my teaching methods for each student.
Latin, an old language, helps us uniquely understand the past. I begin by learning grammar and vocabulary, but my main interest is Latin literature. My students can learn the language by reading and translating classic works and understand and value its beauty and importance. Additionally, I focus on the historical and cultural context of the texts we study, which helps to create a more complete learning experience. This approach makes people curious and genuinely interested in the language. Interacting with students helps me adjust and make learning more exciting and satisfying.
Ms. Ho’s expertise in Latin literature is commendable. I only wish we had more interactive sessions.
Martha is a great teacher who cares about her kids and wants the best for them. She always comes to tutoring lessons well-prepared, and she's great at giving her students access to useful tools that will help them learn. She is a helpful and positive teacher who notices when her students don't understand something and works with them to fix it.

Good teacher, but I sometimes felt overwhelmed with information. Would appreciate a slightly better pace. We sometimes moves too fast that it gets difficult to keep up

I have been teaching for 15 years and I still have a strong passion for Latin. I have had the privilege of guiding many students, from secondary school students who want to understand their first Latin poem to mature learners who are curious about the roots of European languages. Every year, I have improved my teaching methods based on new research and the specific needs of my students. Latin has a wide range of expressions, from short phrases to complex poetry. I have experience teaching beginners by making verbs easier to understand. I also have experience teaching more advanced students by analyzing difficult texts written by authors like Virgil and Ovid.
My approach of teaching Latin is focusing first on vocabulary, idioms, and phrases while also drawing inspiration from classical sources. You'll be able to engage in Latin conversations, write emails, and even create content in Latin for various platforms. This approach connects you with a global community of Latin enthusiasts actively using Latin in the digital age.Whether you're interested in promoting Latin in educational settings, communicating with fellow Latin speakers, or simply experiencing Latin as a living language, this approach offers a dynamic and forward-looking perspective on Latin studies.
Lessons with Isaac are a perfect combination for having fun and gaining knowledge. My one and only wish is that we could have spent more time learning about other works of literature.
Mr. Begum is patient and attentive. He ensured I understood every detail before moving on. Highly recommended.

For more than 14 years, I have had the opportunity to teach many different students Latin. I have helped high school students learn the language and guided university scholars in studying Latin literature. These interactions have greatly improved my teaching approach. I have experience teaching students who are having a hard time understanding difficult concepts. This has helped me learn how to adjust my teaching speed and methods to make learning effective and fun.
My approach revolves around learning Latin poetry, where words transform into beautiful art. In this approach, we will study the writings of well-known Latin poets like Horace, Catullus, and Propertius, and others. Students will like Latin poetry, understand the different patterns and techniques used, and even make their own Latin verses. We will begin with easy poems and then move on to harder ones. By carefully reading, analyzing, and understanding, students will develop a deep understanding of the subtle aspects of Latin poetry. We will also talk about the history and culture when these poems were written. This will help students understand and relate to the feelings and ideas in each poem.
Mr. Pearce's passion for Latin is evident in his lessons. I just wish we had more interactive activities.
Finley’s lessons have been a lot of fun for me. After a two-year break after GCSE Greek, he skillfully brought me back into A level Greek, which made me love and be interested in the topic all over again. Finley’s lessons have been helpful, efficient, and fun. His quick wit and dry humor make dry topics intriguing, and his wide range of knowledge lets him give interesting background on Hellenistic stories and ways of life. Thank you very much for recommending him!

During my 12 years as an educator, I have focused on teaching Latin to my students. I have been focused on the IB curriculum for the past seven years because it has challenging requirements. I have met many students who are interested in different things, like ancient cultures or learning Latin for its language difficulties. Each year, new people come with different ideas and questions, which makes me change and improve as a teacher. It's nice to see students progress from saying simple Latin phrases to having detailed conversations about Roman history, thanks to their new language skills.
To me, Latin is not only a language, but also a way to travel back in time. I try to teach students both language and culture. I start by teaching basic grammar and vocabulary to make sure every student feels confident in their fundamental skills. Then, we move on to more challenging readings and interpretations. As we learn more about the language, we also learn about the Romans and their literature, art, and philosophy. My lessons are engaging and involve talking, sharing ideas, and working together on projects. I think it's best to learn a language by speaking it, even if it's a 'dead' language like Latin. In my classes, students are encouraged to talk, act out scenes from plays, and write their own short stories in Latin.I use a mix of regular textbooks and online resources to make sure my students can use different materials. Also, I often give them extra materials such as videos, podcasts, and articles that give a modern view on old texts. Students should understand how historical language relates to their lives today.
Mila is a great teacher. She is lively, and the lessons are fun. Anyone can ask her a question, and she is happy to answer them. She also makes great decisions about what to teach people who want to learn Latin. I would suggest this to anyone who wants to learn seriously.
Mila has been teaching Latin to both of my sons for their IB exams. An excellent tutor who is clear in their explanations and gets right to the point. Very pleased with how things have been going thus far.
