M.A. in Classical Civilizations
I became interested in Latin during my time as an undergraduate student, and my interest grew even stronger when I pursued my master's degree. I have been teaching for almost ten years and it has been a great privilege to pass on my love for this old language to younger students. Latin is not only a language, but also a connection to a past era. Over time, I have adjusted my teaching methods to meet the needs of many different students. I have enjoyed teaching both students who view Latin as just another subject and those who are truly passionate about it. Every student, no matter what they were interested in before, always leaves my class with a new respect and interest in Latin.
When I learn Latin, I don't just see words. I see stories, culture, and the beginning of understanding. I focus on making complex things simpler. Instead of overwhelming students with a lot of information, I prefer simplifying things and making them easier to understand. We explore stories from ancient Rome, learn about the origins of modern English words, and sometimes play games related to Latin. Latin is best learned by being fully involved in it. So, my classes often include things from the past, like what people saw and heard, to help students completely learn Latin.
That lesson on things for the GCSE was really good. It really helped, and I used the videos to learn what I needed to know. Very good.
A thorough teacher. However, his class structure might feel a bit rigid to some. Still, you end up learning a lot.
Masters in Latin Literature
When I started learning Latin, I was fascinated by the deep and rich literature it has. In the last eight years, I have been lucky to teach students about ancient authors and their timeless works. I worked with schools to make interesting Latin programs and judged Latin competitions at a national level. My experiences have taught me that it's important to understand and appreciate Latin literature by paying attention to grammar and the historical context.
Engaging in spoken Latin is a valuable and often overlooked aspect of mastering this ancient language. In our tutoring sessions, we'll go beyond the written word and focus on developing your ability to converse in Latin. We'll start with simple conversations, gradually working our way up to more complex dialogues. This approach isn't about fluency but about creating an authentic connection with the language. Speaking Latin allows you to internalize grammar rules, vocabulary, and pronunciation more effectively. To make the process enjoyable, we'll discuss various topics, from daily routines and hobbies to historical events and literature. This conversational practice not only enhances your Latin language skills but also engages you in the cultural and historical context in which Latin thrived. By the end of our sessions, you'll find yourself not only reading and understanding Latin but also confidently participating in Latin conversations.
That's one of the professional teachers I'd suggest. She's qualified and her skills are good.
Victoria was an excellent teacher who helped me a lot with Latin. She is very smart and also very good with people, which makes her an ideal tutor. She built my confidence, which showed in my grades. Personally, I would suggest her to anyone who wants to do better in school.
M.A. in Classical Studies
I started learning Latin when I was young because I was really interested in historical literature when I was in school. I became more interested in this subject during college, so I decided to get a master's degree in Classical Studies. As I learned more about Latin, I realized how much it has influenced the development of modern languages. I have enjoyed teaching students about Latin for seven years. In every class, I try to take my students back to a time when Latin was the main language. I use stories from history and famous books to help my students develop a love for language.
Grammar is a crucial aspect of Latin. To make it less daunting, I incorporate interactive exercises and games. We'll solve grammar puzzles, construct sentences, and practice verb conjugations through fun activities. This hands-on approach makes learning grammar enjoyable and effective..
I used to dread Latin, but Ms. Kumar's approach has completely changed my perspective. Highly recommended!
I have mixed feelings about Gabriella. On one hand, she knows Latin well, but sometimes it feels like she’s rushing through the lessons. I often get lost and wish she would explain things more slowly. Also, the lessons are a bit too serious, and I think some fun activities could make it better
Gabriella's passion for Latin shines through in every class. She explains things well, and I've learned a lot from her.
