I began my journey as a science teacher 12 years ago at Elmwood Middle School. During these years, I've had the privilege of teaching over 300 students, each unique in their approach to learning. The school's diverse environment provided me an opportunity to adapt my teaching methods to cater to different learning styles. From demonstrating chemical reactions with hands-on experiments to organizing field trips to local science museums, I've always believed in making lessons tangible and relatable. One of the highlights of my career was when our class project on sustainable energy was recognized at the National School Science Fair. Collaborating with students, understanding their challenges, and celebrating their moments has been a fulfilling experience for me. I've also spent summers attending workshops to keep up-to-date with the latest teaching methods and scientific discoveries. In my science class, we keep things simple. Instead of just reading books, we observe everyday life. Maybe that's watching how water boils to understand heat or checking out the stars at night for a bit of astronomy. We also try little experiments, like seeing what things float in water or why certain things burn and others don’t. I believe that by seeing and doing, we remember better. So, our class is all about learning science by being curious and exploring the world we live in.

I am Matthew Lewis with a Master's in General Science from King's College, London. For over ten years, I've taught science in both city and countryside schools. Each setting has offered unique challenges and insights. I've observed the varied learning styles of students and adapted my methods to suit their needs. I think science can be found anywhere. I use real-life stories and situations to help students understand ideas in my classes. I earned my MSc in Zoology and have spent the past nine years teaching both biology and general science.
