MA English
With over 25 years of teaching experience, I've become skilled at guiding students through O'Level/A'Level English Language/Literature, Sociology, SAT (English), and A'Level Psychology, consistently achieving excellent results. My teaching style focuses on sparking students' curiosity and creating a desire for excellence.
I begin by identifying students' main problem areas through diagnostic tests, then break down the root causes of these challenges. I simplify complex problems into smaller parts, guiding students step by step to overcome obstacles. By starting with easier tasks and gradually progressing to more challenging ones, I build students' confidence and sense of accomplishment, leading to improved academic performance.
MA in English Literature
Over a span of 25 years, I've taught English to a wide range of students. I've worked in both local schools and international setups. Most of my students have been high school and college-aged, but I've also taught business professionals who wanted to improve their English for work. Through these years, I've adapted my teaching style to meet different needs. From helping students get ready for exams to assisting them in understanding classic literature, I've tackled diverse challenges in the world of English teaching.
I like to keep my lessons simple and direct. I start with understanding what my student needs and then plan my lessons around those needs. We focus on real-life examples, using news articles, books, and conversations to practice English. I believe in regular feedback, so I always tell my students where they are doing well and where they need to put in more work. My main aim is to make sure students feel comfortable using English in their daily lives.
Mr. Ivanov made English easy for me. I used to struggle, especially with writing, but his guidance changed that. I'm now confident and even enjoy reading books in English.
Good lessons and useful tips. However, I wished for more variety in the learning materials.
PhD in English Literature, TEFL Certification
I started my teaching journey at a university level, focusing primarily on British literature. Over time, I branched out, teaching not just literature but also basic and advanced English courses at several community colleges. I've also been active in various English language workshops internationally, particularly in non-English speaking European countries. The past decade has seen me work extensively with business professionals, enhancing their English for global communication.
I emphasise practical application. If you are a student, we will go over a lot of material to help you understand books and write better essays. If you're a professional, our classes will focus on how to improve your emails, presentations, and other forms of business communication. In my opinion, there should be clear feedback and measurable results for learning goals in a practical, straightforward method.
As my English teacher, Bram was great to work with. He was clearly an expert in his field from the very first lesson. He quickly figured out what I was good and bad at and made sure the lessons fit my needs. Bram’s way of teaching is different, which made the lessons fun and interesting. He helped me improve my speech and writing skills and were able to explain difficult language ideas in a way that I could understand.
Effective teaching methods, but sometimes the sessions can be intense. A small break in between would be great.
BE(ECE), MS(VLSI)
I’ve worked with SABIS® students internationally, offering one-on-one support in English Language and Literature across different levels. I’m familiar with the system’s academic rigor and checkpoint-based learning.
I emphasize clarity, structure, and consistency, mirroring the SABIS model. I help students master grammar rules, comprehend literary texts, and plan essays using step-by-step breakdowns and frequent practice.

Doctoral degree in English Composition
Over my 21-year teaching career, I've taught pupils online for the past 8 years. This online exposure has given me the ability to communicate literary concepts in a virtual setting. Besides teaching, I’ve participated in curriculum development, ensuring that it remains relevant and effective for tutees. Additionally, I've facilitated several educational workshops to elevate teaching standards.
I believe in using modern tools and methods to make learning effective. This includes using visualizations and infographics, which have proven to be a powerful way of simplifying literary topics. I’m also an advocate of inquiry-based learning. Instead of just passing information, I encourage my students to ask questions, provoking thought and promoting understanding. Lastly, concept-mapping is a regular feature in my sessions. It helps students connect ideas, ensuring they see the bigger picture.
Harvey has all the qualities a GCSE student needs in their teacher. A great teacher who never cancels sessions, uses helpful study materials, gives constructive feedback, and doesn’t forget to have a laugh in long sessions. Harvey has very good pronunciation and always explains whenever I am confused. I definitely recommend Harvey. So happy to be coached by him.
Sir Harvey assigns overwhelming amounts of homework sometimes.
Doctorate degree in English literature
My Doctorate in English literature has taught me a lot about the subject and teaching methods. I've also taught disabled students. Plus, my participation in professional programs has allowed me to stay updated with the latest teaching techniques. My involvement in study abroad programs has given me the ability to teach a global student base.
I add gamified learning elements into my sessions. This approach not only makes lessons fun, but also helps in information retention. I strongly believe in the principle of learning by teaching others. Often, I encourage students to explain concepts to their peers or even to me. This not only reinforces their understanding, but also boosts their confidence. Every student's goal is unique, and I ensure that my teaching strategies help them achieve those goals.
I always love spending every minute studying with Mr. Finnegan. He inspires me because he has the passion of a young teacher in him. Stay blessed sir.
Sir Finnegan is a truly devoted teacher who actually cares for his tutees. He is always patient, on time, well-prepared, and the sessions are very immersing. Finnegan really helped me to achieve my academic goals. I highly recommend booking a lesson with him. Thank you for your guidance.
M.A English
I have been a home tutor for seven years and also have experience as an online tutor. My students consistently achieve excellent results, with many scoring above 80% in their subjects. I specialize in English, holding a B.A. in English Literature and an M.A. in English with Distinction (Gold Medalist). Currently, I teach undergraduate students at a college.
I have strong and effective speaking skills, and a solid understanding of my subject. My students are consistently satisfied with my teaching methods. I use both traditional and modern teaching techniques to ensure clear communication. Following the philosophy that "Brevity is the soul of wit," I focus on providing concise and straightforward explanations rather than lengthy ones.
MA B.Ed.
I am very passionate about my subject. I have experience in handling CBSE, IGCSE, and American curricula. All my students have aced their exams.
I prefer making the student understand the concept by asking relevant questions. Students are encouraged to think independently and write creatively. I firmly believe that command over English will ensure better performance across all subjects and later in the student's career.
Diploma for Early Years Teachers and Trainers.

Ritu is such a nice tutor! I hired her 3 months back to get professional academic tutoring for my daughter studying in 8th grade. My daughter was really happy with Ritu’s session.
I was about to give up my IETLS when I found Ritu. She helped me improve my writing, speaking, listening, and reading skills.
