Experience

For the past 15 years, I have been teaching history, focusing mainly on the mediaeval period in Europe. I began teaching at a well-known school in Leeds. In my career, I've worked to change the idea that mediaeval history is only about knights and castles. I have taught students about the Black Plague, Viking invasions, and Byzantine Empire, which helps them understand this time period better. I have helped many students in national history competitions, and they have done well.

Tutoring Approach

Mediaeval Europe was a period of significant changes, including invasions, migrations, innovations, and trade. I want to bring this time period to life by telling stories about regular people, kings and queens, traders, and those who invaded. We often use things like maps, artefacts, and impressive buildings to better understand the details. I know that IB students face difficulties when it comes to exams. We analyse old test papers and make short but complete answers. Also, I make sure to develop a routine of regularly reviewing and promote asking a lot of questions during our sessions.

I have worked in education for 14 years and have always been fascinated by the Renaissance period. I started my career in Southampton and focused on combining art, literature, and history to help students understand this time period from different angles. We used a new way of teaching that involved workshops. In these workshops, students would make art from the Renaissance period and learn about the social and political situations of that time. I have written articles for journals and magazines about lesser-known figures from the Renaissance.

The Renaissance was not only about bringing back art and literature, but it also changed the way people thought and valued things in society. I believe in taking a comprehensive approach to fully understand something. Every lesson usually begins with a work of art or literature. We learn about its history, why the artist created it, and how it affected society.Engagement is important. I often include hands-on projects in my lessons, like making artwork inspired by the Renaissance or writing sonnets.
