M.A. in Colonial and Post-Colonial History
I have spent more than 17 years studying and teaching about colonial and post-colonial histories. I began my education in Canada, where I became interested in the worldwide effects of colonialism. I went on research trips to former colonies in Africa and Asia to learn more about the legacies they left behind. My real-life experiences, along with my education, have given me a good understanding of the topic.
Colonial history is not only about the people in charge and the people they governed. It is also about learning about the ways different cultures influenced each other, how people resisted and adapted to colonial rule, and how things changed over time. I use a teaching method that involves talking and discussing with students. I encourage them to ask questions and think for themselves. We use original sources such as letters, diaries, and newspapers to explore personal stories that are often ignored in popular accounts.I prioritise clear communication and different viewpoints for IB students. We often use old test papers to understand how the exam is structured. I always stress the importance of making clear and balanced arguments in your answers.
Olivia makes learning interesting and is a fantastic teacher. She is not like the other teachers I've encountered online who simply followed the courses on reply and clarified the phrases, and that was it. Instead, she has thousands of good articles and other materials in her toolkit that she shares with me so that I can look at them more closely, pick up the vocabulary, and adapt them. Excellent educator. Luckily, I signed up for her classes.
I've been taking courses with Olivia for a month now, and I really enjoy them. She is a generous, humorous, and incredibly smart teacher. I didn't anticipate having in-depth discussions about society, history, philosophy, etc. Each lesson, the ability to articulate difficult concepts helps me get rid of my imposter syndrome a little bit more. I wholeheartedly recommend Olivia!
Her help was very important as I learned the IB history curriculum. The regular sessions for comments were especially helpful.
M.A. in European Medieval History
For the past 15 years, I have been teaching history, focusing mainly on the mediaeval period in Europe. I began teaching at a well-known school in Leeds. In my career, I've worked to change the idea that mediaeval history is only about knights and castles. I have taught students about the Black Plague, Viking invasions, and Byzantine Empire, which helps them understand this time period better. I have helped many students in national history competitions, and they have done well.
Mediaeval Europe was a period of significant changes, including invasions, migrations, innovations, and trade. I want to bring this time period to life by telling stories about regular people, kings and queens, traders, and those who invaded. We often use things like maps, artefacts, and impressive buildings to better understand the details. I know that IB students face difficulties when it comes to exams. We analyse old test papers and make short but complete answers. Also, I make sure to develop a routine of regularly reviewing and promote asking a lot of questions during our sessions.
Engaging classes, but we sometimes moved too fast, especially with complex topics.
I used to dislike history because it was dull and we had to write big essays, but after switching to online learning and having Liam as my history teacher, my interest in the subject began to grow.
Doctor of Philosophy in History
Zohan here! I’m a passionate and highly experienced history tutor who has also worked as a Historical Consultant and Government Historian. I’ve experienced tutoring multiple levels of students studying different curricula, i.e., IGCSE, GCSE, IB, etc. I’ve also served as an undergraduate lecturer at different universities where I conducted sessions with a focus on world political history. Apart from that, I’ve also worked as a research writer for many years and conducted research on different topics, including the impact of the civil rights movement on the education system of Americans, the role of racial discrimination in junior European schools in building a biased society, etc. I can help students with different history courses and even with research topics.
My tutoring approaches are picked very carefully while keeping an eye on the needs of my students. I always try to add interesting activities to the sessions just to ensure that students are enjoying the entire learning process while grasping the necessary concepts. Students are provided with an excellent learning environment where they can engage with me and find solutions to their learning problems. I often use a constructivist approach in my sessions. Reason being, such approaches focus on building strong critical and logical thinking skills that further assist them in future learning. Positive feedback is also provided to the students.
Zohan is a wonderful history tutor. His sessions were engaging and I never felt bored learning the historical concepts with him.
With his help, I was able to score excellent marks in my final exams. Thank you, Zohan for being such a great tutor!
He is a very talented tutor! I would highly recommend him!
PhD in American History and Criticism
I have roughly 3,000 hours of experience in personalized tuition. The majority of this has been with A-level students, across the three major exam boards. I cover the content, teach essay-writing, and prepare pupils for exams. I have also taught the same subject in university courses. Plus, I have given guidance on research projects, coursework and masters dissertation.
All students have different requirements, so the structure of lessons varies. This is something that I discuss and agree upon by the end of the first session. My general approach is divided into three categories: essays, content, and exam preparation.
Great tutor. Knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready. I highly recommend it.
So pleased I found Isla through this website. She has mentored and is still teaching me in A level history course. I'm very happy with her lessons. She brings new ideas and information to boost my knowledge.
Excellent tutor, fully prepared for sessions, and assigns me work until the next session. I have no idea where to start for revision but with Isla's instructions, I can plan ahead.
M.A. in Modern World History
I have been teaching for 15 years and I have seen how much young people are interested in learning about important events from our recent history. I started teaching in Glasgow. I organised interactive sessions to explore important events from the 20th century. Also, working with war veterans and survivors of important historical events gave my students personal stories and lessons that they couldn't find in a textbook.
The history of the modern world is filled with events that have a direct impact on today's society and politics. I want to connect the past and present, helping students see that history is more than just dates and events. It can help us understand the world we live in today. I want to make lessons interesting and easy to understand by using videos, documentaries, and stories from people who experienced it firsthand.I include group discussions in my sessions. Students are encouraged to talk and argue about why major events like the World Wars, the Cold War, and important civil rights movements happened and what happened as a result. If you're studying for exams, we want to make sure you understand how events are connected, how to analyse them critically, and how to give comprehensive answers.
Riley is an excellent teacher! He is very approachable and enjoys customizing lessons for each student. He creates excellent assignments that are interesting and fun. He is approachable and adaptable, and I'm so glad I found him! I'm hoping Riley will someday teach my younger son as well. My son enjoys History more now and looks forward to his lessons. I appreciate your help so far, Riley, and I look forward to your helping my son with his GCSEs and then my younger son after that.
His classes are information-packed, but I sometimes found it hard to keep up with the numerous resources provided.
Fantastic teacher. My son really connected with this tutor. He was interesting to him, and he made the lesson enjoyable for him. My son thought he had provided him with excellent advice regarding exam technique. We are incredibly happy and appreciative to have found this tutor.
M.A. in Modern European History
In the last 14 years, I have been fortunate to study and understand the important events and changes that have influenced Europe today. I developed a strong interest in European history while studying at the University of Brussels. I focused on important events like the creation of the European Union and the Cold War. I have worked in different schools in Belgium and France, which has helped me gain valuable experience and learn new teaching methods.
European history in recent times is full of complex events, different cultures, and important moments of change. I focus on helping students understand the bigger picture while also looking at specific details. I make sure my students understand the larger context, whether it's about the politics before the world wars or the social and economic reasons for the Iron Curtain. For people studying for their IB exams, it's important to understand timelines, connect events, and make strong arguments. We analyse past IB questions, have conversations, and practise writing essays to help students feel confident in what they know and can do.
Her classes always have engaging and informative discussions. I only wish we had studied about the Balkans more.
Sophia is a fantastic tutor in every way. She really cares about teaching and is friendly and gentle. She found the most effective teaching methods for my son rapidly; now, they are different techniques, and as a result, my son has gained more insight into history. Sometimes my husband and I can hear the lessons, and we are always in awe of how much my kid has learned and how curious he has become. Additionally, she will provide me reports on my son's progress on a regular basis, which I enjoy and shows how efficient Sophia is in his education. In a nutshell, she is excellent.
It was so unprofessional that I had to finish the course in 15 minutes. I simply waste my money. Find a new job if you dislike your current one.
MA History
I began tutoring in 2010, starting with math before expanding to various business subjects for O-level and A-level students. I hold master's degrees in Commerce and History, which enable me to teach a diverse range of subjects, including business, accounting, economics, geography, math, and history. My teaching philosophy emphasizes a gradual, methodical approach to ensure students build a solid understanding of fundamental concepts. This approach has helped me effectively convey the logical structure of complex topics.
Building a strong connection with students is crucial. I engage students by encouraging active participation and fostering an interactive learning environment. By actively listening to their questions and concerns, I can continuously assess what works best and adjust my teaching strategies accordingly.
M.A.(History)
For 10 years, I taught history to college, school, and undergraduate students in India. I continued this after moving to Dubai. I love meeting students from different countries and teaching them about historical events.
I have the willingness to go the extra mile and stay after class if needed. I also have great interpersonal and communication skills.
M.A. in Renaissance History
I have worked in education for 14 years and have always been fascinated by the Renaissance period. I started my career in Southampton and focused on combining art, literature, and history to help students understand this time period from different angles. We used a new way of teaching that involved workshops. In these workshops, students would make art from the Renaissance period and learn about the social and political situations of that time. I have written articles for journals and magazines about lesser-known figures from the Renaissance.
The Renaissance was not only about bringing back art and literature, but it also changed the way people thought and valued things in society. I believe in taking a comprehensive approach to fully understand something. Every lesson usually begins with a work of art or literature. We learn about its history, why the artist created it, and how it affected society.Engagement is important. I often include hands-on projects in my lessons, like making artwork inspired by the Renaissance or writing sonnets. If you're worried about exams, our sessions focus on learning about different cultures, important people from the past, and how they still affect our world today.
We were looking for organized, well-structured GCSE History lessons. This is what we received right away after the first lesson. The lesson was planned out in advance, and we are sure Taylor makes the most of his students during class. He also assigns homework to make sure the lesson is retained. We anticipate taking additional lessons.
I always looked forward to his lessons. Just wished we explored more about the scientific advancements of the era.
Taylor did a great job. We planned to have the lesson online. He provided tutoring in history, going over assignments, and offering excellent advice on how to get better in both subjects. He was very understanding and patient. Without a doubt, I'd suggest him.
M.A. in 20th Century History
I have taught history for 13 years, with a main focus on the 20th century. I worked at a well-known school in Bristol for most of my career. I helped students learn about important events like the World Wars, the Cold War, and the rise and fall of empires. I have helped many students with their IB projects and exams. A lot of people have said that my advice had a big impact.
To me, history is about tales. I enjoy telling stories from the past to help students understand important events. We examine diaries, letters, and newspapers from that period. This helps students experience what it was like to live in the past. When getting ready for tests, we do a lot of practice. We review past exams and practise writing effective answers. I can also provide advice on how to effectively manage your time during exams. I want to help students feel prepared and not too worried.
Emma and I spent only a brief amount of time working on my IB History. We established a thorough plan for how to approach the task in our first trial lesson and were successful in doing so. She consistently showed excellent subject knowledge throughout each lesson, and if I felt stuck, she was able to provide insight from a different angle. Her ability to really listen and comprehend her students' requirements before determining how to communicate things in a way that makes sense to them is one of his strongest talents. I am grateful for her tutoring, and you can be sure that she will always go above and beyond to ensure that your work is perfect. Additionally, because Emma has a terrific sense of humour, you will always be able to laugh together:) I have no reservations about recommending Don as an instructor.
Great teacher! I just wish we had more classes on recent events, like the late 90s and early 2000s.
When I was working on the IB project that I had to write, Ms. Tremblay provided me with a lot of helpful ideas. Her comments were almost always insightful. She is one of the main reasons I was successful..
