Master's in Classical Studies
I started learning Latin before I became a Latin teacher. As a young student, I was fascinated by ancient Rome, its history, and how it has shaped the world we live in today. For the past 12 years, I have focused on giving students this experience. I have interacted with students from different backgrounds. Some of them are interested in reading classical texts in their original language, while others are simply curious about the language that influenced many other languages. I always prioritize the needs and goals of each student, and adapt my teaching methods accordingly.
My approach is to explore Latin literature focusing on famous authors like Ovid, Horace, and Pliny the Elder. We will carefully talk about and read their works to understand their ideas and excellent writing. We will understand the myths and transformations in Ovid's "Metamorphoses," a poetic masterpiece. Moving on to Horace, we will study his lyrical poetry and discuss topics like love, friendship, and the complexities of being human. This method allows people who love literature and students studying classical studies to have a more engaging experience. It helps them better understand and enjoy classic Latin works.
Molly has a unique way of teaching which I found engaging. Sometimes the lessons can be intense, but they're always good. She makes everything easy for me.
If you want to see Latin beyond just a 'subject', Ms. Wheeler is the tutor you're looking for. She paints a vivid picture of the ancient world. My daughter has just started her lessons with Ms. Molly and I am so grateful for her tutor.

Bachelor's in Spanish Literature
During the 12 years I've been a teacher, I've always had a lot of respect for the rich literature culture of Spain. My children and I have read a lot of Spanish literature, from the passionate works of Gabriel García Márquez to the moving poetry of Pablo Neruda. Literature has been a big part of my life, and it's not just books. I love the culture, history, and subtleties that each piece of writing captures. A lot of my students have fallen in love with the language over the years, just like I did. Stories make them love language.
It's not just about grammar and words for me; it's also about becoming absorbed in the stories and feelings that the language tells. In my classes, students do more than just learn Spanish. We get really into stories and look at what drives the characters, how they fit into history, and what their actions mean for society. The more students learn about a language's literature history, the better they think they will learn it. This will also help them understand the culture and people behind the words.
Ms. Walker's love for Spanish literature is evident in every class. Her enthusiasm is contagious. Through her teachings, I've not only improved my Spanish but also discovered a newfound love for reading.
Learning Spanish through its literature has been an enlightening experience. Sophia's classes are like stepping into a new world each day, where we explore stories, characters, and emotions. It's a journey I always look forward to.
Sophia has a unique teaching style. While I've gained a deeper connection with the Spanish language, I sometimes wish we'd spend more time on spoken conversational skills
Master's in Spanish Literature
Having spent over a decade in the classrooms of Spanish higher education, I have developed an affection for the culture that informs the language. I love the literary works of Spanish-speaking countries, from Lorca's heartfelt poetry to Mario Vargas Llosa's biting wit. Over the years, I've tried to teach my students how much I love Spanish stories by combining the high standards of the IB curriculum with the rich world of Hispanic writings.
Method I employ as a language tutor is to emphasize the importance of going beyond the basics of grammar and vocabulary by learning about the history and literature of the people who speak that language. In my Spanish classes, we often read parts of books, plays, or poems and then talk about them. This helps students think and talk in Spanish. I also use movies, music, and art from Spanish-speaking countries because these things give a real look into the people's daily lives and feelings. Literature and culture are at the center of my lessons, but I also make sure that my students learn good reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Mr. Phillips is more than a Spanish teacher; he's a guide into the rich world of Hispanic culture. His classes have given me a deep love for Spanish literature, something I hadn't anticipated.
Every class feels like a cultural journey! I've grown fond of Spanish poetry, thanks to Ethan. I just wish we had more interactive activities.
Ethan is a good teacher. While I enjoy our literary discussions, I sometimes find the grammar lessons a bit challenging.

Master's in Spanish Language and Culture
Entering the world of Spanish academia straight after graduation, I've spent a little over a decade teaching the next generation of linguists. My commitment has been to not only teach the language but also take students to a journey with teaching. This journey has enabled me to understand the evolving dynamics of language learning at a university level, allowing me to refine my techniques over the years.
One of my foundational beliefs as a tutor is in the power of practical application. In my experience, students benefit a lot when they're facing realistic situations that mirror day-to-day life in Spanish-speaking environments. Instead of just memorization, I prefer to put students in scenarios where they might have to navigate a bustling Spanish market, or perhaps handle a reservation mix-up at a local hotel. This method ensures they're absorbing not just the vocabulary but also the rhythm, pace, and details of authentic interactions in Spanish. I've found that when students can relate their lessons to real-life experiences, they retain and recall information more effectively.
Mr. Cooper's approach to teaching Spanish is transformative. It's more than just lessons; it's a cultural experience. The interactive sessions, especially with native speakers, were an absolute game-changer for me.
William's classes have given me not just language skills but also an understanding of the heart and soul of Spanish culture. His use of films, music, and art in teaching makes the learning process so engaging.
I loved every bit of Mr. Cooper's classes. The cultural immersion approach is refreshing. However, I would have appreciated more intensive grammar drills.
Master's in Classical Studies
During my 12 years as an educator, I have focused on teaching Latin to my students. I have been focused on the IB curriculum for the past seven years because it has challenging requirements. I have met many students who are interested in different things, like ancient cultures or learning Latin for its language difficulties. Each year, new people come with different ideas and questions, which makes me change and improve as a teacher. It's nice to see students progress from saying simple Latin phrases to having detailed conversations about Roman history, thanks to their new language skills.
To me, Latin is not only a language, but also a way to travel back in time. I try to teach students both language and culture. I start by teaching basic grammar and vocabulary to make sure every student feels confident in their fundamental skills. Then, we move on to more challenging readings and interpretations. As we learn more about the language, we also learn about the Romans and their literature, art, and philosophy. My lessons are engaging and involve talking, sharing ideas, and working together on projects. I think it's best to learn a language by speaking it, even if it's a 'dead' language like Latin. In my classes, students are encouraged to talk, act out scenes from plays, and write their own short stories in Latin.I use a mix of regular textbooks and online resources to make sure my students can use different materials. Also, I often give them extra materials such as videos, podcasts, and articles that give a modern view on old texts. Students should understand how historical language relates to their lives today.
Mila is a great teacher. She is lively, and the lessons are fun. Anyone can ask her a question, and she is happy to answer them. She also makes great decisions about what to teach people who want to learn Latin. I would suggest this to anyone who wants to learn seriously.
Mila has been teaching Latin to both of my sons for their IB exams. An excellent tutor who is clear in their explanations and gets right to the point. Very pleased with how things have been going thus far.
Master's in Spanish Literature
I first fell in love with Spanish stories and poems back in college. They were so deep and rich that I just couldn't get enough. Now, after teaching for 12 years, I love sharing this passion with my students. I've taught them about both old and new Spanish writers and the world they came from. My students often say my classes are like stepping into the stories themselves. Through these works, we travel back in time, understand different ways of life, and appreciate the art of storytelling in Spanish.
I believe reading Spanish books and poems isn't just about the words. It's about feeling what the writer felt. In my lessons, students don't just read; they act out scenes, read passages aloud with emotion, and talk about the stories' backgrounds. We also explore the places and histories mentioned in the literature, giving context to the narratives. My goal is to help students see and feel the bigger picture behind every Spanish story, connecting them to a world beyond the classroom.
Oscar's classes have made me fall in love with Spanish literature. The way he connects stories to Spain's history and culture is fascinating.
Mr. Phillips doesn’t just teach; he brings stories to life. His dramatic readings are a highlight of his lessons, and they truly make the texts memorable and engaging.
I appreciate Oscar's dedication to teaching. His passion for Spanish literature is evident, and it's hard not to get swept up in his enthusiasm. I do wish we covered more contemporary authors in the curriculum, though.I’ve never enjoyed a class this much before.
PhD in Spanish Linguistics
For over ten years, I've taught Spanish at university level. My interest in the language isn't only about the words but also the varied sounds from different regions. I've had the chance to teach students from many backgrounds, and I always aim to give them a comprehensive view of Spanish, highlighting its unique features and styles. Alongside teaching, I continuously study Spanish and enjoy sharing the latest findings with my students.
My lessons are more than just studying Spanish; they're about deeply connecting with the language. We listen to various accents, understand regional differences, and practice speaking it correctly. I use interactive tools like games and quizzes to make the learning process fun and engaging. Additionally, I incorporate real-life scenarios and conversations to ensure students are prepared for real-world Spanish interactions. Through all these methods, my ultimate goal is to help students not only speak Spanish but to understand and value its diverse essence truly.
Dr. Davis has a way of making phonetics interesting! Her exercises really helped improve my accent and understanding of the Spanish sounds.
Attending her lectures feels like a deep dive into the ocean of Spanish linguistics. I particularly appreciate the real-world examples and audio clips from different regions. Makes it so much easier to differentiate between dialects.
Lily's passion for Spanish linguistics is clear in every class. She does not talk a lot in class. Just wished there were more interactive sessions.
